There is something exciting and movie like about acting on your sudden impulse – it is like driving down the road with the top down and the wind in your hair. The problem arises when next day or the next year or the next decade arrives and you realize that the tattoo of the love of your life across your breast (I have some great true stories on this topic!!), is now your nemesis or that cute Daffy Duck on your ankle at age 17, looks a tad immature at 35 years old. Or perhaps the tattoo down your entire arm (a sleeve) worked for you, when you were a drummer in a heavy metal band and wanted nothing to do with the establishment. However, as you apply for your government job, it does not go so well with the image. The military and the fire departments are getting stricter about tattoo and their visibility- even the coolest of tattoos can sometimes lose their coolness.
Frequently, I have patients that are interested in tattoo removal. There is good news and bad news. The bad news first. It was a lot easier to get the tattoo then to remove it, even with the best lasers, several sessions are required. The good news is that Dr. Berman Cosmetics has one of the best laser tattoo removers (Revlite SI) on the market. each session will make the tattoo less noticeable. A good laser will be able to remove the various colored inks in the tattoo without damaging your skin color itself. The less expensive lasers, that are on the market, will either not work with many colors, or will depigment the skin.
It is easiest and quickest to remove a pure black inked tattoo, rather than one with colors. I strongly recommend you do a fast track which basically means that we give you 2-3 sessions in one day. You will probably need 4-6 sessions. Also we have a wonderful cooler which blows cool air on the tattoo while we are removing it. I would also recommend that you put our numbing cream on your tattoo about 40 minutes before your session.
The laser is very fast and the treatment takes very little time. If it is a small tattoo, it can take less than a minute.
The sessions are spaced about 6 weeks apart. You also do not want to sunburn the area between sessions. In the vast majority of cases, we can remove your tattoo, easily and completely, with each session removing more and more your love-lost tattoo.
